Took my sweet patootie to the Paws of Coronado first annual Surf Dog Competition. Great idea for a fundraiser as everyone present seemed to be havin’ a blast o’ mornin’ beach fun.

We hung back and watched the crowd practicing…
There were poochie surf lessons for an hour & 1/2 before the serious competition started in. We saw the tail end of said lessons and it looked like a mix bag of water antics.

The ladies from Paws of Coronado were hangin’ at their info booth, passing on the official fuzzle información.

The folks that were working as offical surf instructor dudes seemed very mellow and positive with their canine charges. Thanks Guys!

In between lessons and the first heat you could find these competitors chilaxin’ in the warm Imperial Beach Sand.

There is something seriously mellow about Imperial Beach on a Sunday morning. There is no sense of the usual crazed SoCal beach bonanza freakout.
Very ” easy like Sunday mornin’” yeah…

Saw the lovely lassys from Lucky Dog holdin’ down the retail fort. Sweet doggy board shorts were on the menu. Fun!

There was also an adoptable representative of Paws of Coronado…

Pete – Pete le Sweet puppy loo was havin’ a grand time on the beach with Paws beach buddy.
Adopt him at Paws of Coronado (click his name for more info)
So after a few initial wipe out runs there was a contestant that started up the serious surfin’ safari…

lil’ Murphy was showing us how it is done.

Nate & I took off soon after this run so we did not see the eventual winning waves.
Check out the winners and more fun surf event info at the Union Trib’s article (there was a ton of press at this thing – I think PAWS will have a huge turn-out next year)
