To Catch a Mousse [or] Live and Let Meow

Recently daydreamed of some feral fuzzles that I used to take care of...

Back in the days when I worked for a publishing house that was situated by a creek, I helped capture, spay/neuter, and maintain the daily doolie for a couple of sets of kittens and the mama kat that made them. This whole process was supported by the Creekside Veterinary Hospital of Soquel and was kept up by the entire office.

Through the wonders of Chicken-on-a-Stick & the ever cloying Sausage Surprise I was able to gain the trust of the wee meows and became quite close with them. A few were adopted out, a couple lived out their time by the creek, and sadly enough my personal favorite (orange & white Fuzzle) was smooshed by a car.

I believe in the mission to implement a trap-neuter-release solution to Feral cat colonies. Let us stabilize the fuzzle quantity 'cause there are enough unwanted fuzzles out there - nuf said.

If you would like more info & assistance in maintaining a local feral cat colony please check out the local Feral Cat Coalition Homepage. They have a bunch o' good info on the site.

and on to other pending Fuzzle Features...

At the San Diego Humane Society we have a fine batch o' meeses for your adopting pleasures.

I met this group a couple of weeks back and I believe there are still some available.

Cream Puff - young Female Mouse - Super Social!

If you have been wanting a fuzzle friend but can not commit a bunch of home space - consider this tiny luvbert.

au revoir !

When I'm 64......or 176

Sweety Pie Aldabran Tortoise - Al - Just a baby still.
Wait till he's 700 lb!

Howdy fuzzle fans. Take a moment to reflect on the passing of Harriet, the 176 year old Australian resident that may have been taken from Galapagos by Charles Darwin back in 1835 - Craaazy, No.

Tortoises definitely take the long way round to get to the final destination. If you are interested in participating in tortoise guardianship / adoption check out our local San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society. I have been to their annual show (took pix of cutey Al & other shelly wonders) that is held at Balboa Park & it is pretty nifty. Added bonus that it is in the park for maximum moseying and people watching. Their 2006 show is coming up this July 15th & 16th - check it out!

For your further Fuzzle consideration pour your love to...

Gabe - Lovely ~3year old Male Weimeraner buddy-man

Gabe is living at Rancho Coastal Humane and needs some Fuzzle Fame love coming his way. Go visit and see if its a match!

And now we travel to San Diego Humane Society for today's Art History lesson...

Annie - a 6 year old Female Odalisque Magnifique!

I met this lovely lady a couple of weeks ago & she is too funny & sweet.
Miss Annie Meow is ready to be your muse!

Stay tuned for mas Fuzzle Mañana!

The Kennel Dance...

yowie! - gonna be hot today.

Pop down to the Chula Vista Memorial Park for a little Doggie Walk / Festival outing with the Chula Vista "Pet Fest". There should be adoptable Fuzzles, a doggy dash, and various festivities. The SNAP Neuter Scooter should be there as well.

Yesterday was the "take your dog to work day". I am sure there was a bunch o' waggy silliness going on around town. If you want to share your workin' doggy pics with the world - pop over to the Dog at Work site.

Now down to da business of the morning...
We are serving fresh fuzzle up to a hungry Saturday morning crew.

This lil kitty comes to you from the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. I don't know whether to call this "over easy" or perhaps "scrambled"

Presenting the many cagey poses of...

Pearl - 2 year old Female (click name for details)

I do not usually like to take photos of the fuzzles with cage bars involved. This little fuzzle made it irresistable to take a few bar snaps. Every time I looked back her way she had a slightly different take on cuddling up to the kennel door. She is super cute and waiting for her new companion to cuddle to (kennel bars only love you so much).

Enjoy!

Hello darlin's

I have got an extra special fuzzle in the queue for you.

I met this little fuz while shooting the Union Tribune Pet Page at the Helen Woodward Center. Now I have met and photographed a lot of pets in my day but there are some that are just particularly funny characters.

Please give your adopting thumbs up to...

Jinx - 2 year old female bonded with her sista' Sushi

Classic Fuzzle! I thought she was gonna let her drumstick drop but she was adamant about keeping a thumbs up until her picture was taken. hi-larious!

I figure she could step it up a notch for some xtra star power.

Stop by Helen Woodward and meet le Jinx et Sushi.

Sushi - 2 year old female lovely!

While your checking out their site take a gander at the Romanian Doggy tale. Interesting world-wide fuzzle awareness mission come to light. Whilst shooting the pet page photos I saw a team gearing up to do some work on the doggy documentary film.

May the Chip be with You

Just a quick post to remember that Lost & Fuzzle is no fun. Microchipping le fuzz might be a good idea since I have heard that 50% of dogs and 75% of cats do not have a collar by the time they arrive at shelters. I believe that shelters & humane societies around town Microchip outgoing adopted fuzzles.

Here is super duper
SDDAC team member Arlene taking a young fuzzle to receive its microchip.

Recently the Union Tribune published an article that told the happy endings tale of an Encinitas family that was reunited with their Boxer after 4 years.

Gotta luv' it.

Was handling the crowd well and took a moment to show me his smile

The final check-in of the morning was with another Greyhound rescue group in town - Greyhounds 2 Go. This was another first meeting for me but I was impressed by their turnout. They had a bunch o' dogs at the booth and an impressive number of participating handlers. Of course I had to take a shot of the mascot du jour - Teddy the couch surfer.

Yes folks he is adorable but he is already taken -

Love is in the Air

Yet again I am trailing on my post. Had some computer issues but all is well now.

Buzzed by the San Diego Humane Society's Annual Adoptathon. Went on Saturday so all the fanfare was fanning. Nice event. Folks were buzzin' about fueled by Ben & Jerry's samples and the excitement of potential adoptions. There was a lot of action by the outdoor puppy romp zone - interested adopters & those just hopin' for a renewal of cuteness intake. The kids could have kitty cat / puppy dog face painting fun - always a good thing.

I believe that a bunch of the canine party were from the Katrina
"Love Train" group that had been prepping for adoption at Sherman Street. A fresh group of Love doggies has recently arrived and have started their path to adoption.

Here we have a couple of sweeties from Mississippi - Maggie the Bassett Mix & Poo Bear. These two have become good buddies through their travels and are ridiculous cute together. Thanks to awesome SD Humane handlers for the snap op.
katrina dogs

There were some Bun Buns out in the festivity zone. Unfortunately the Bun Bun zone was not receiving the "I'm super excited to get a companion" adopter buzz that was floating around some other areas. I did not get any pix of the fuzzles in that area but I am posting a shot I took earlier of a bunny that was on display.
Gracie the Bun Adoptable Fuzzle @ SD Humane
I also took the opportunity to rub a guinea pig butt which is just good for the soul and renews the inner hee-haw. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Also had a chance to swing by the sweet table o' pet goods that was manned by Susan Rosenberg; PETCO Foundation's National Adoption Coordinator, and found out that she is putting together a book series. Gotta send some love out to PetCo & the PETCO Foundation . They have spread some substantial dollars around & have provided adoption centers for rescue groups like Rescue House. Anywhozit...Susan had just adopted megawatt cutey pie Mary the Chi. Took a quick snap of Lauren & Susan with la Mary to commemorate the day.

I hung out a little bit more. Chatted with all around super gal Sarah W. from SD Humane and then had to mosey along.

Congratulations to all those folks out there that found a new companion during the Adoptathon. Happy stories from the day - send them
my way

In The Wake of the Walk

The San Diego Humane Society put on its annual Walkathon last month. I buzzed by to get a feel for the flavor & say hi. It was a blast. I could only hang out for about an hour but I had a chance to stop by for chats & snaps with a few different groups that had their booths up.

First popped over to say hi to Candy @ the SNAP Neuter Scooter. She was hangin' with Volunteer Extraordinaire Jocelyn who has recently picked up recognition for her super community service from Councilmember Hueso.

Also hanging at the Scooter zone was Candy's over the top cutey pie Cookie rockin' the Burberry stroller. She was a pick from Chula Vista Animal Care Facility - if you are looking for a smaller dog to adopt they tend to have a lot in that size category.

I love SNAP! Really effecting change in San Diego pet overpopulation. The stats that bounce around with pet overpopulation crises info are always daunting and it is nice to have inventive groups like SNAP to help change the community.

After checking out with SNAP...I took in the booth that the Greyhound Adoption Center had put together. They had brought a sweet bunch of dogs with them that were very mellow and curious. I have not really talked with this group much but they seem to do a lot for greyhounds.

After hanging with the athletes for awhile I mosied over to the Pit Bull Rescue folks to check out what they had going on. I just found out about this group when I shot them for the Spring Union Tribune Pet Page this year. I am already a big fan. Nice folks and important niche of fostering to be handled. I know that they recently they went on a do the right thing operation to Bakersfield
and saved around 20 pups (and adults) from the big E. They had a few at their booth that were sound asleep.

I saw some of the pups more recently and they are growing up super cute! The flip side on this mission has been the cost to bring the pups to healthy conditions. The group could use some help to keep afloat. Flow some dollars their way if you can spare.

The last foster group I chatted with was a quick stop at the Coastal German Shepherd Rescue
. I got to briefly interact with a super QT by the name of Orkan who was only 11 mo old. Gorgeous!

After popping around the various vendor booths and checking out the general fun going on at the main stage I moved back over to the booth area for one last chat. I had to say hello to the officers and Wildlife rescue crew. I have warm fuzzy feelings for these folks. One of the officers mentioned that there is a Basic Animal Law Enforcement Academy that is going to be held at SD Humane Society in August.

So by this point people were pretty much gathered to go at the main balloonathon start zone. Once I got over there it was just a crazy sniffy happy town. I took a bunch of snaps to try and cover some of the early morning perk. There were puppies in three way leash tangles, folks getting portraits with their pets on hay bales, general meet and snif, and an awesome group of folks representing the reptile contingent of San Diego pet people. The snaps follow below.

Thanks to everyone who put this event together and to those who supported and enjoyed the day.
So I say adieu till tomorrow.
