Neither by snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness...

FCI_Peanut.jpg
Peanut - Gorgeous young (about 1yr old) lil' Min Pin mix. This mellow mug is a good indicator of how cutey pie she is. She likes other doggies a lot and would probably do well as an addition to a doggy household. Adopt her at Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals. [link]

So the other day when I was hanging out at my local Post Office I noticed some posters for...

May 20-26, 2007
National Dog Bite Prevention Week

Got to figure that those Mail Delivery folks have logged a chomp or two in the course of delivering our postables.

Check out the Humane Society of the United States' info on how to stay dog bite free. [link]

It's always good to be prepared!

HWC_Scout1.jpg
Scout - This little doggy man is a sweet energetic pup (just a little over 1 year old). He was super well mannered for his photo shoot.

you may not be ready for all those good looks in one fuzzle package but here it comes again...

On Your Mark, Get Set...

FCI_Minnie.jpg
Minnie - Wee Minnie Pearl has her fancy chapeau on for race day. She might just choose to hang out in the stands but if your chihuahua is ready to rocket then make sure to show up at Saturday's big event.

forget the triple crown folks...

this is the 3rd Annual Petco Chihuahua Races!

San Diego, CA 92110

more info [link]

I have not watched it before but I might have to pop down to check it out this year.

If you are going down that way you will also have the chance to see lots of different adoptable fuzzles.

I'm pretty sure Chihuahua Rescue & Transport will be representing. [link]
I think Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego will be there also.

Also - that particular Petco has some adoptable bun buns available through the team effort of House Rabbit Society / Escondido Humane / and Petco Foundation. Cool! [link]

There is also a couple of cutey pie kittys from Shelter Pet Partners that are available at that location. Check them out! [link]

Also...

just down the way Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals will have their adoption station set up at the Pet People Sports Arena - 3625 Midway drive [link]

Those are the folks that are working with lil' Minnie that you saw up above. Here is another wee mug that might be there that day...

FCIA_Rusty.jpg
Rusty - I have met Rusty a number of times and he is a total charmer to me. He is a little tripod doggy that lost his leg after a car accident left him with some pretty serious nerve damage. Does not slow him down. Adopt him at Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals. [link]

Pet Day on the Bay

HWC_Moose1.jpg
Moose - A total charmer. This guy rocked his photo shoot. He was super balanced and happy. Check out his sit-up action...

HWC_Moose2.jpg
He is a 3 year old Bassett Hound / German Shepherd Mix. Adopt him at Helen Woodward Animal Center. [link]

A great way to help sponsor pets like Moose that are in Helen Woodward's care is to pop over to their 7th annual "Pet Day on the Bay" with Hornblower Cruises on Thursday the 17th. [link]

Bring your dog and donation of towels and/or blankets to the Embarcadero and you and your pooch both get a free 1 hour harbor tour on Hornblower Cruises. All collected donations go to Helen Woodward Animal Center .

Check out more info on the Fuzzle Calendar. [link]

If you are looking for a perma-date to these kind of events check out this doggies dance card...

In a Sentimental Mood [or] I think I've Seen You Before

ACN_smokey.jpg
Smokey - I have met this 8 year old doggy awhile ago and he is still hangin' out in the adoption zone. Not to say that I would not like to see him again but I think it is time for his ship to come in... Are your sails flying?

Adopt him at SDDAC North. [link]

The cool thing about going up to the SDDAC North is that they are one of the few shelters in town where there are livestock style fuzzles around. I even met an emu once. They will have potbellied pigs, goats, horses, and all sorts of fuzzle fowl including the likes of...

ACN_Rocky.jpg
Rocky - I met this chicken a bit ago also. If you were hankering for a new feathered friend you should check out the Rockster.

Adopt him at SDDAC North. [link]

And lets not forget the wee ones. There tend to be some pretty interesting little fuzzles around at SDDAC North. Below is a picture of one that I met awhile ago. His name is Houdini because he had a way of showing up outside of his cage when everyone thought he was stuck inside. He has already found a home but there are many others ready for adoption. Check them out!

FOCAS has all sorts of great dogs in their care. Their next adoption event will be Saturday June 9th in Balboa Park. Always a great place to spend the day! Check the Fuzzle calendar for all sorts of adoption events going on every weekend. [link]

If you just can't wait to see another adoptable adorable then place your peepers on...

You Can't Judge a Fuzzle by it's Cover...

Kaz.jpg
Kaz - I have met Kaz on a number of occasions and she is a delightfully demure little lady fuzzle. What I did not know is that there is a whole extra fun & frolicky story to this young Chihuahua / Pitbull mix. A volunteer with the foster group she is with (Pitbull Rescue San Diego) took the opportunity to capture some videos of the youngster romping with her foster mom.

Adorable!!

Adopt her at Pitbull Rescue San Diego. [link]

Take a moment to check out their youtube videos of little Kazzy-lou! more here [link]

Kaz has some nerve damage that occured when she was young and has limited vision but that does not seem to put a dent in her stride when she is in frolic mode.

Further proof that you can't always judge a fuzzle by its cover!

Walk for Animals

HumaneWalk07_01.jpg
Last Weekend there was a super fuzzle fest otherwise known as...

The 13th Annual San Diego Humane Walk for Animals !

This year they held it at Crown Point in Pacific Beach - Ended up being a super locale for the festivities.

I made a quick swing around the vendor n' rescues zone - first things first. One of the first fuzzles of the day that I met was...

HumaneWalk07_02.jpg
Hanna - She makes we want to say Hanna Banana in my head about 50 times. Off the Charts mellow and sweet. She was hangin' with her foster group Coastal German Shepherd Rescue. I think she will be adopted pretty fast. [link]

Just a couple o' steps away was a kind soul by the name of...
HumaneWalk07_03.jpg
Magic - Ok so now I have that Heart song running through my head like a fuzzle after a frankfurter. But he really is a Magic Man! This lovely shepherd boy has had a tough go in life and is really sweet despite it all. Adopt him at Coastal German Shepherd Rescue. [link]

Had a chance to hang with my buddy Cindy (her fuzzy buddy Tess is featured having fun at the lure coursing park in the Fuzzle sidebar!) from Puptown Doggy Day Care. If you have some downtown doggy day care needs check out their website. [link]

So as I continued down the lane I could not help but notice my top contender for most photographed doggies of the day...
HumaneWalk07_05.jpg
I had to muscle in (not really - just being dramatic) past all the paparazi to land a shot of this pair of canine celebrities. Who can help it when they are just chillaxin on their surfboardmobile? I can't.

I kept on keepin' on down the lane futzin with my camera, etc. My attention suddenly snapped back into focus when I noticed that somebody was leaning up on me...
HumaneWalk07_04.jpg
What do you get when ya fall in love?
I looooove this doggy. Believe me I see a bazillion fuzzles around and every now & then one of them really hooks me. Such is this fuzzle. He is swoony sweet and I am already jealous of the lucky person that will adopt him. Check out Greyhound Adoption Center and ask about Velamint! [link]

Velamint was not the only adoptable option hanging tight with the GAC. Hold on to your name game folks 'cause here comes...
HumaneWalk07_11.jpg
Turnip - Greyhound Adoption Center has miles of smiles with their good buddy Turnip. He is ready to be your favorite couch potato. [link]

While I was hangin' with the folks from GAC they informed me about the Fyvie Fund - a special fund set aside for assisting in medical costs for greyhounds that come to GAC with serious leg injuries. It's named after Fyvie, a female greyhound that was found with broken bones in both forearms. I got to meet her after taking snaps of her two adoptable buddies. She es muy adorable. Check out their website to see how you can help this project keep on keepin' on. [link]

greyhound_sammy.jpg

P.S. If you already have a greyhound hangin' at your home and would like a fun field trip for the fuzzle - make sure to check out the Luratics website. [link] I have met a number of greyhounds that have a blast at the Luratics Lure Coursing runs.

so anywho...

HumaneWalk07_07.jpg
The crowd around the start line (I know it says finish in the photo but it was one of those dual-use banners) started to gather up for the big countdown. Mayor Jerry S. counted them down and then I started to realize just how many people had shown up!

HumaneWalk07_10.jpg
This place was seriously packed. Good job y'all for helpin' to raise funds for San Diego Humane. It's always fun to see folks feelin' good and frollicking with their fuzzles.

To be clear there were a lot of dogs there that morning but let us not forget that there are other fuzzles in the sea...
HumaneWalk07_08.jpg
Here is intrepid kitty number one. I shall name thee Braveheart the tamer of all ye survey. Honestly I think he wanted to tell those dogs a thing or two but he hung tight y'all. I was impressed - and he wasn't the only one...
HumaneWalk07_09.jpg
So this is trusting kitty number two. Big props for coming out to the Walk for Animals with about a bazillion dogs around!

And you can be sure that there will always be a reptile representing at the SD Humane walk. Our particular model for this post will be monsieur Iguana -
iguana.jpg

So whilst the walkers were doing there walking thing I popped over to finish peeking around the pavilions and ran into my buddies from Pit Bull Rescue San Diego. They had a wee adoptable hanging out.
HumaneWalk07_12.jpg
Cupertino - Mr Cutey Pie otherwise known as "Cooper". Adorable! Check out Pit Bull Rescue San Diego [link] or Kim's Fuzzies for more info.

After I had lazied my way around the free pancake breakfast that Pennysaver sponsored I popped over to the North side of the park where some folks were starting to make the final stretch.
HumaneWalk07_13.jpg
It was pretty funny around the end zone because volunteers were handing out doggy icecream on the sidelines and the dogs were going totally bonzo for it.

HumaneWalk07_14.jpg
Up on the knoll there was all sorts of activities: bobbin for franks, paw art prints, etc. I mosied up there to see how that was rolling.

HumaneWalk07_15.jpg
So now I now that if I am ever feeling down in the dumps I just need to watch a bunch of dogs bobbing for franks. Seriously folks its everything you need to have your hee haw renewed in life.

But seriously (yes again with the seriously) - on my way back to the final goodbyes for the morning I had to get a couple of snaps of two great teams that work within San Diego Humane Society...

HumaneWalk07_16.jpg
Humane Officers crew hangin' at the 2007 San Diego Humane Walk for Animals.

HumaneWalk07_17.jpg
Animal Rescue Reserve crew hangin' at the 2007 San Diego Humane Walk for Animals.

Thanks again to everyone that made such a great event possible - hold it in that location next year!

RCH_lucy_close.jpg

Summer Blockbusters [or] Back To The Fuzzle

BeauBamBam.jpg
Beau & BamBam - A couple of bosom buddies that are around 11 years old. Yep no spring chickens but a fun pair that may be ready for your home movies. Imagine a couple of medium-small dogs that have super personality faces. They are defo ready for their close-ups. Adopt them at Animal Services Central! [link]

If you enjoy a little movie magic outside of the home movie arena take a look at San Diego's Cinema Under the Stars. Never been there myself but with the weather all summery already I think its going to make it on my list o' places to check out. The Movie for May 10-12th is Pirate's of the Caribbean. [link]

I Wouldn't Call it a Betrayal but...

A Snake in the Grass can be a dangerous experience for the Fuzzle in yer life.

Especially if the Fuzzle you adopt likes to go on long walks in our local hills & valleys.

just like this one might...

HWC_Roy.jpg
Roy - This handsome fella is about 2.5 years old and ready for a trail buddy. Adopt him at the Helen Woodward Center.

Show him the ropes and keep him (or another fuzzle) safe by participating in the Snake Training Session sponsored by German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. [link]

The class includes both general good to know info about the snakes that might be encountered and also moves to a training portion that teaches your dog to recognize the scent, sight, and sound of a rattler. Check out this [link] for more info.

If you are looking for another willing participant - look no further than...

HWC_Charlie1.jpg
Charlie - Bubbly fun is this youngster's aura du jour. Adopt him at the
the Helen Woodward Center.
