Where to Go When there Ain't No Snow...

Ok - It's officially hot
warmkitty.jpg

Sometimes it's a wee bit too hot to go out in the middle of the day and lounge about.

But you fuzzle luving loungers should not despair!

For these hot summer months also bring out some cool local freebies (yes I know that was a lame sentence but I just can't help myself sometimes!)

So here is something you can do with a fuzzle in tow (if said fuzzle is one that you would normally take to le park with you). There is something pretty sweet about a leisurely park walk with a music break in the middle. Let music sooth yer inner beast & yer fuzzle too! As always if you are looking for a fuzzle to accompany you on these kind of outings, there will be some eligible adoptables towards the end of the post.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

SDfair07_05.jpg
So I returned this year to the San Diego Fair for some hang time at the Pitbull Rescue San Diego booth. They were schedule for last Friday and this year they brought along a mascot.

meet...

SDfair07_07.jpg
Bo - This 6 month old Pitbull / Pointer mix was a joy to be around. He handled his mascot duties with flying colors. This wee fella must have met a few hundred people that day (lots of them kids) and was personality plus!

SDfair07_02.jpg

I showed up around noonish and he was just winding down from the morning rush so we set him up in a corner zone for a wee nap.

There were so many kids checking out the Agrifair - it was kinda hi-larious. I think everyone was on overdrive from fair food / sunny day / I'm not at work or school vibe (except for the folks chaperoning large groups of kids - they had the eagle eye / serious work vibe going on)

SDfair07_04.jpg

As soon as Bo would get up from a nap he was all about being a social butterfly!
SDfair07_09.jpg
It was funny to see some folks get a peek of him from across the room and beeline over to say hello.

SDfair07_01.jpg

After awhile this lil' buddy was ready for one more nap...
SDfair07_08.jpg

And then after a good cuddle with his lobster buddy he was all " Where's the party y'all!"

SDfair07_11.jpg

As the afternoon came around people were losing their energy a bit but were still totally stoked to check out the pages of pictures of adoptable dogs available and say hi to Bo.

SDfair07_06.jpg

Make sure to check out Pitbull Rescue San Diego's website for more info and pics of lots of adoptable dogs! [link]

Also...
There are still other rescue groups that will be hosted at the Fair. Friday & Saturday is English Springer Rescue, Sunday is the Parrot Rehabilitation Society, and Monday is German Shorthaired Pointer Club.

For more local adoption event info make sure to check out the Fuzzle Calendar! [link]

My buddies over at SNAP gave me the heads up on another fantastic fuzzle that is available for adoption.

He is neutered, microchipped, good with cat/dogs/kids , housebroken (aww yeah baby!), good on a leash, and social. They note that he can be chatty with new dogs when he is on a walk or at the park.

So basically you are ready to rock!

Doggy Dash - Part Deux

DoggyDash_01.jpg
Saturday was the rise n' shine fun time at the Chula Vista Doggy Dash!
Proceeds from the event went to H.E.A.R.T. (this is the non-profit organization that assists the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility in providing care for thousands of pets) [link]

I popped in at a little past 8:00 am & the joint was already jumpin'.

There were all sorts of great vendor booths and rescue groups in attendance.

DoggyDash_05.jpg

I started out saying hello to the folks with Greyhounds 2 Go. [link]

DoggyDash_04.jpg
They had a bunch of adoptable fuzzles hanging out showing their true "lap dog" nature. Here we have Hope & Rego (both 5 years old) practicing the fine art of lap balancing.

and peering over from behind his buddy...

DoggyDash_02.jpg
Flick - The beautiful 6 year old brindle boy!

and peeking out from behind Flick...
DoggyDash_03.jpg
Voodoo - The sweetie pie 11 year old lady. She seems mellow and wonderful.
Adopt these guys with Greyhounds2Go. [link]

DoggyDash_08.jpg
The oh so awesome Neuter Scooter was there. SNAP holds regular Spay & Neuter clinics in Chula Vista and have Spayed & Neutered over 10,000 pets in San Diego. They have a Fundraiser Golf Tournament coming up this summer (more info tomorrow). If you like to golf you should definitely check it out!
[link]
They are Amazing!

Tomorrow I will be posting pics of a couple of sweet kitties that they will have up for adoption. Stay Tuned!

Greyhounds were Definitely in the house!

Here representing Greyhound Adoption Center as an official SpokesDoggy is Elvis!
DoggyDash_06.jpg
When this rockstar enters the building you take notice. His charm & charisma works like a spell over those that meet him! He was there to show off the awesome attributes of the greyhound and I think he was doing a pretty good job. [link]

Here he is with his gal pal Brindy (co-SpokesDoggy). I think she is swooning...
Or is that me!
DoggyDash_18.jpg
Check out their website for information about adoptable greyhounds! [link]

n' just when I think it's safe to go on...

doggydash_15.jpg

the Cute comes out n' gets me again!

This time it is via Stoney the Siamese ratty who is up for adoption with Wee Companions. They had an awesome group of wee adoptables available that day. If you are looking for Ratty Buddies with great temperaments - ya gotsta check in with them! [link]

They also had the cute in a slightly rounder package - otherwise known as...
Doggydash_16.jpg
Julie the Guinea Pig! If y'all have been reading this blog for awhile - You know I gots love for the piggies! Wee Companions always has a fantastic assortment and I noticed quite a few youngster piggies there also. [link]

So by this point the racers have started to line up and the big start is just minutes away. There is just enough time for the competitors to sniff out the competition and size up who might be coming home with the gold...

DoggyDash_07.jpg
And then they're off!

Whilst the athletes were doing their exercise thang I swooped back over to my good buddies at Pit Bull Rescue San Diego to get a few glamour shots going.

doggydash_13.jpg
Mimi - This Pitbull Gal is a lover with beautious blue eyes. Adopt her at Pitbull Rescue San Diego. [link]

and talkin' about lovers...
DoggyDash_17.jpg

After the race was run there was time for Pet Blessings.
DoggyDash_09.jpg

and fun contests including best outfit.
DoggyDash_10.jpg

and just general fun in the sun and doggy watching...
doggydash_12.jpg

I think the one on the left looks like Eric Estrada.

The Chula Vista Police Canine Unit put on a demonstration of one of their doggy officers at work. It was a good thing that everyone was holding their doggies leads because the dogs got way amped up when the center doggy was showing its stuff. It was totally intense!
DoggyDash_11.jpg
There were sooo many folks hanging out in front of the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility's booth that I just could not get a clear shot. But that is awesome! I think they got some really good response that day! They were taking pictures of all the race participants, handling licensing, fielding questions, setting up interactions, n' more. [link]

I Left My Heart...

In Escondido...

ESC_Tommy.jpg
Tommy - This youngster (aprox 1yr) Aussie Cattle Dog mix has the most wonderful jowlies. I want to reach into the photo to give them lil' whisker pulls. I am guessing he would prefer a fun run or some frisbee (but I can have fun in my own imagination in the meantime). Adopt him at the Escondido Humane Society.

So the Escondido Humane Society is having an Adoption Special for 2 weeks.

They are reducing their adoption rates in hopes of encouraging great homes to adopt Now!

Adult pets (6+ mo) now have an adoption fee of just $55 !

That includes Spay / Neuter, All Vaccinations, Veterinary Exam at their center and after adoption at partnering vets, Lifetime Behavioral Support, Nutro Food, and much more!

ESC_Sugar.jpg
Sugar - Yes she is sweet. Yes she is young (less than a year) n' muy playful. She is also deaf so she may need some extra consideration in her training and surroundings. But how can ya resist the smile! Adopt her at the Escondido Humane Society.

Petco is chipping in so that all adoptions (while supplies last) will receive a coupon pack w/ $100 worth of savings.

If you have been looking for a special buddy - check out their selection and have some dollars left over for pet supplies n' such.

Charm Schoolin'

PuppyCharm.jpg

With those puppy eyes and poochy faces it's no surprise that pups are usually the first ones out the door at your local shelter / rescue. Right next door to the puppies are the wacky wonderous one year olds that missed some important training in that first year and ended up in the shelter when the puppy fun fades. So if ya take the puppy remember to take the time.

The folks over at Metropawlitan Dog have a win/win situation that they made me aware of the other day.

They offer a Free 6 week Puppy Pre-School Program for puppies from 8 to 16 weeks old!

Metropawlitan Dog offers all sorts of doggy daycare, spa, & playgroup services so it makes sense to help create a good canine crowd from the paws up! [link]

Metropawlitan Dog - Puppy Preschool
Classes begin June 30th
10:00 am
811 13th Street, San Diego
619-233-1DOG (1364)

Vicky from Metropawlitan indicated the other day that the class is filling up but is not full yet and there is the possibility that another class may be added if required.

She will be sending me some photos of a puppy preschool sesh. I will update y'all when I have them.

And We Have a Winner!

LAB_Brownie.JPG
Brownie - This 10 year old Golden Years Guy is gorgeous. He obvs' posed well for his photo shoot and is quite the dapper dude. I think everyone is a winner when a golden years adoptable finds a home! In the words of the Empress of HomeMaking... It's a Good Thing.

Adopt him at Lab Rescuers San Diego! [link]

and following in the Winner Theme...

Lab Rescuers will be having a Silent Auction & Dinner (I am sure the Dinner is not Silent) in July to the benefit of Adoptable Labs in San Diego.

3rd Annual Lab Amore Silent Auction & Dinner
July 22, 2007
4:00 pm
Marina Village - Captain's Room
1036 Quivera Way

Nothing better than an auction ( besotted with Ebay am I ) with a chaser of good vibes (knowing that yer hard earned loot is going to help out doggies in need).

Especially when the doggies are as snuggly as...

LAB_Poncho.JPG
Poncho - If you had yer heart set on a youngster then check out this 1yr old boy. He is a little unsure of life still but he is learning fast about luvin' and playin' and snugglin' and playin' and trainin', and playin', etc. The folks from Lab Rescuers indicate that he would do well with a canine buddy and even a feline friend that likes to play with dogs ( yes they are out there and I totally recommend Shelter Pet Partners if you are looking for a kitty with those inclinations .) Adopt him at Lab Rescuers. [link]

oh and Dear Diary

P.S.

I believe that they are still accepting donations to the Auction. If you have some items that you would like to add to the parade contact -

My cat is totally married to this thing now. He lurvs to come up and flop on it and cuddle it and lurv it all day long. Let the good times roll ! [link] (cigar photo from Muttropolis)

#3 The Walkies version of Surf n' Turf
So if you were having trouble deciding which type of stroll you would like to have - Just try moseying over to the Sea World Drive / Tecolote Road freeway exit off of the 5 freeway. If you turn towards Tecolote Road you are just a couple of blocks from the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park [link] and if you turn towards Sea World Drive you are just a stoplight or so away from Fiesta Island [link]. How can ya go wrong?

Cheeky Monkey...

I got another update from Octavian the Kitty!

His mom sent in some pics of him happy n' snuggly in his new home. I had a major crush on this kitty when I met him at the Shelter Pet Partner's Petsmart Murphy Canyon location. The folks that adopted him have been awesome about sending me little updates every now & then - they saw my effusive comments about him on fuzzle blog. They just straight up emailed me one day and rocked my world with a little bit of cheeky kitty fun. Thanks for taking the initiative! You rock.

Here is another lovely portrait that they sent in...

Here is the link to the original post. [link]

So in honor of Octavian let us gander at another Shelter Pet Partner kitty boo that is ready for adoption...

SPP_MathewPerry.JPG
Mathew Perry - This is one fun loving youngster. He really gets on well with dogs. While I was taking pictures he was having a casual play session with a puppy and it looked like they were having a pretty good time. He is impish and wonderful. Adopt him at Shelter Pet Partners. [link]

If you were thinking a bit more of a fuzzly stately fella then there is ...

SPP_Handsome.JPG
Handsome - Gorgeous is the word and Handsome is the name of this 6 year old Norwegian Forest Cat mix.
Sweet & curious kitty man. He actually has three fully functioning legs and one smaller stubby one that he was born with. I did not even notice that he was a semi-tripod kitty until I was given the info. Adopt him at Shelter Pet Partners. [link]

Adopt a Cat Month

RCH_19.jpg
Donnie - This guy is adorable! He and his two buddies are living at Rancho Coastal Humane. They are a bit shy but in just the little bit of time that we were in the room together they seemed to come out of their shells a bit. He is pretty much blind - I think he can see some light & dark because he reacted to the flash. I am feeling fond fuzzy feelings for him. Adopt him at Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

They are hoping to place him with a buddy from his original location. I have a wee crush on his friend...

RCH_18.jpg
Champ - Donnie's buddy is a shy guy also but I think that you can tell from the snapshot that there is a lover cat just waiting to break out of his shy shell. Adopt him at
Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

June is Adopt a Cat Month! If you have been thinking about adopting a cat this is yer month.
There is a bunch o' extra kittys around this time of year so every adoption helps! With all the kittens showing up the older meowers could definitely use some lurv!
